Massive Attack remove music from Spotify to protest against CEO Daniel Ek's investment in AI military The band cited a'moral and ethical burden' placed on artists by revenue from their work ultimately funding lethal technologies Massive Attack have become the latest act - and first major-label one - to pull their catalogue from Spotify in protest at founder Daniel Ek investing €600m (£520m) in the military AI company Helsing. In June, Ek's venture capital firm Prima Materia led the defence tech firm's latest funding round. Helsing's software uses AI technology to analyse sensor and weapons system data from battlefields to inform real-time military decisions. It also makes its own military drone, the HX-2. Ek is also chairman of Helsing.

'Massive' Russian attack on Ukraine's Kyiv kills at least 4, dozens hurt
An overnight Russian drone and missile attack on Ukraine's capital Kyiv has killed at least four people and wounded more than 20 others, officials said. Powerful explosions rocked the city into the early hours of Thursday morning, illuminating the sky and leaving behind columns of smoke as Russian projectiles damaged and destroyed buildings in several districts of the city. The attack was the first major combined Russian drone and missile attack to strike Kyiv since United States President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska earlier this month to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's city military administration, said a 14-year-old girl was among those reported killed, citing preliminary information. A five-storey residential building in the city's Darnytskyi district was hit directly.

Ukraine says Russia launched massive attack with 67 drones
The Ukrainian Air Force said it repelled a massive air attack by Russia across the country, shooting down 58 of 67 long-range drones that were launched overnight. Debris from a downed drone was also found next to Ukraine's parliament building in the capital, Kyiv, the Verkhovna Rada said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app on Saturday. Air defence units were scrambled into action in 11 regions across Ukraine, the air force said in a statement on Telegram. It also said the Shahed drones were launched from two border regions in Russia as well as from the Russian-occupied peninsula of Crimea. There were no immediate reports on casualties from the attacks.

Is artificial intelligence more formidable than nuclear weapons?
Of all the potentially new and revolutionary technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) may be the most disruptive of all. In layman's terms, AI refers to systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual and speech recognition, decisionmaking and, perhaps one day, thinking. AI has already defeated the world's best chess and Pokemon GO players. Suppose AI surpasses the intelligence of human beings. Could AI's super-intelligence cure cancer, enhance wellbeing, redress climate change and deal with many of the planet's worst evils?
